Coetus participated in one of the most important regional policy and local governance events in Europe – the European Congress of Local Authorities. The event annually brings together policymakers, municipal leaders, academics, and business representatives to discuss innovations, regional development, and the future of public services.
At this year’s congress, Coetus took part in the discussion “From Orbit to Everyday Life: How Space Technologies Improve Society.” The panel explored how space technologies and Earth observation data already contribute to more efficient public services and help municipalities make data-driven decisions.
In his presentation and during the discussion, Erikas Bėrontas, the Commercial Director of Coetus, emphasized that space technologies are becoming an increasingly important part of modern public infrastructure. According to him, it is crucial for local and regional authorities not only to test innovative solutions but also to ensure their practical application in everyday operations.
“Space technologies have long since moved beyond the realm of scientific research or demonstration projects. Today, they are a real tool that helps municipalities manage infrastructure more efficiently, monitor environmental changes, and better prepare for emergency situations,” said Erikas Bėrontas during the discussion.
The panel paid particular attention to the practical application of space technologies at the municipal and regional levels. Key areas discussed included disaster risk reduction – such as monitoring floods, wildfires, and droughts – environmental monitoring, and infrastructure management using satellite data and advanced analytics systems.
Participants also discussed how to move from isolated pilot projects to fully operational solutions. Speakers highlighted the importance of data quality and accessibility, proper service design – for example, data dashboards, early warning systems, and API integrations – as well as the integration of these solutions into everyday public sector workflows.
An important part of the discussion focused on public procurement and technology governance. Experts stressed that municipalities should focus on outcomes, ensure the auditability of solutions, properly manage technology vendor risks, and develop projects that can be easily scaled and replicated.
The participation of Coetus in this international event once again confirms the company’s commitment to actively engaging in discussions on the application of advanced technologies in the public sector and contributing to the development of innovative solutions for regions and cities.
